Condemns the serious terrorist acts that occurred in Brasilia
El CLACSO Working Group on Violence, Governments and Democracy expresses its deepest condemnation of the serious terrorist acts that occurred in Brasilia on January 8, 2023, which threaten the democratic rule of law guaranteed by the country's Constitution in 1988.
We vehemently condemn the violent and criminal acts of depredation of the headquarters buildings of the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches at the federal level, which express a clear affront against a legitimately elected government and which vilify the historical and cultural memory of the Brazilian people with the destruction and looting of an invaluable heritage of the nation.
We express our solidarity with the government of President Luis Inácio Lula da Silva and the Brazilian people, and we hope that all those who, through action or omission, contributed to this regrettable episode will be identified and held accountable.
We reiterate our appreciation and commitment to Brazilian democracy and our unwavering defense of the democratic rule of law.
