Condemns the dehumanizing immigration policies of Donald Trump's government

The Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) expresses its strongest condemnation of the migration policies implemented by the Donald Trump administration, which violate fundamental human rights and promote degrading treatment of migrants. Human mobility and migration are an inalienable human right, and no state has the legitimacy to violate the dignity and rights of those seeking to build a better life.

Since the beginning of his second term, Trump has intensified measures that demonstrate a worrying dehumanization of migrants. Mass deportations, military deployments on the border with Mexico, and rhetoric that stigmatizes migrants by labeling them “criminals” and “threats” constitute serious setbacks that negatively impact entire communities and undermine the principles of solidarity and social justice.

Recent reports from Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala, and Mexico reflect the inhumane nature of these policies.

The Latin American Council of Social Sciences reiterates that migration and human mobility are fundamental rights and that the actions of the Trump administration represent a flagrant violation of international agreements and reinforce dynamics of exclusion and discrimination that must be eradicated.

CLACSO urgently calls upon the governments of the region, international organizations, and global civil society to act together to demand an immediate end to mass deportation policies and any practices that promote hate speech and violence. It is imperative to defend human dignity and ensure that no migrant is treated as a criminal for exercising their right to seek a better life.

Migration is not a crime. It is a human right.
