Competition for the selection of Open Chairs of Social Movements

The CLACSO Open Chairs on Social Movements are an initiative of the Knowledge Mobilization Area of ​​the Latin American Council of Social Sciences that seeks to renew and expand the commitment to the democratization of knowledge sustained through Access and Science Open

Their objective is to broaden the circulation of knowledge built outside the limits of academia and to achieve a greater reach in the participation of those who collectively build knowledge through exchanges and reflections arising from practices produced in the territory.

The Open Chairs are structured around a thematic axis through 4 asynchronous sessions and aim to provide critical and creative perspectives on the axes that make up the Platforms for Social Dialogue, namely:

• Inequalities and poverty in Latin America and the Caribbean
• Democracy, Human Rights and Peace
• Social movements and activism
• Rights, violence and gender equality
• Environment, climate change and social development
• Migration and human mobility
• Education rights
• Reconfigurations of work in today's world: subjects, organizations and processes

Within this framework, a call for proposals is being issued to teams of leaders who are part of Social Movements in Latin America and the Caribbean and who carry out actions to strengthen human rights and democratic participation, and to eliminate poverty, discrimination, and inequality in all its forms. The selected proposals will be delivered during 2023. 

Each selected project must propose, in addition to its presentation, a kit of materials and resources for social networks that synthesize the knowledge produced within the framework of the open lectureThese may be graphic or audiovisual productions for dissemination on social media. The publication of this material on social media will be subject to the rules and criteria established by the CLACSO Communications Department.

• Create open access training proposals with a Latin American and Caribbean focus.
• To build a critical educational community on current issues in the region.
• To promote the participation of Social Movements in the construction of knowledge. 

1. Up to 4 proposals to be published during 2023. 
   
   
2. The proposals will focus on the following axes of the Platforms for Social Dialogue:
   
   
1. Inequalities and poverty in Latin America and the Caribbean
2. Democracy, Human Rights and Peace
3. Social movements and activism
4. Rights, violence and gender equality
5. Environment, climate change and social development
6. Migration and human mobility
7. Education rights
8. Reconfigurations of work in today's world: subjects, organizations and processes
   
   
3. Each Open Chair must be comprised of a working group with members from Social Movements. The coordination, execution, and delivery of the sessions must be carried out by members of the Social Movement submitting the proposal.
   
   
4. The proposal may combine sessions in Spanish and Portuguese interchangeably. The publication of the Chair's sessions will be in the language of presentation, without translation.

The selected proposals will receive financial support of $1.000 to cover all the tasks undertaken.

The Knowledge Mobilization Area team suggests forming teams coordinated by two or three members. Each session can be led by a minimum of [number of facilitators].and a maximum of four people.

1. The Open Lectures will consist of four 50-minute recorded sessions. In addition, a social media kit must be produced summarizing the knowledge generated during the Open Lectures.
   
   
2. The title of the Chair should be clear and broad, helping to engage the largest number of interested parties. 
   
   
3. Each of the 4 sessions They will last 50 minutes They will be pre-recorded at least one month in advance with technical assistance from the CLACSO team. The four sessions will be published together on a mutually agreed-upon date between the organization endorsing the proposal and CLACSO. 
   
   
4. The Open Chair will be published on the various social networks and platforms available to CLACSO and in the spaces provided by the organization that endorses the proposal.

The coordinating team must:

1. Coordinate the proposal with the people who teach each of the sessions, presenting a work plan and production schedule, ensuring that the sessions will be available within the agreed deadlines. 
2. Prepare the social media dissemination kit with a summary of the knowledge produced within the framework of the Open Chair.

Payments will be made in two installments. The first will be paid one month after the Work Plan and Schedule are approved. The second will be paid once the Open Lecture content has been published and the dissemination kit materials have been received.

Payments will be made by bank transfer. These transfers can only be made to a bank account where the account holder, or one of the account holders, is a member of the coordination team. In all cases, it is essential to present an invoice or equivalent document, in accordance with the legislation in force in the country of residence of the contact person, and the name of the issuer of the invoice must match the name of the bank account holder. 

To participate in this call for applications, you must complete and submit the following documents online:

• Registration form with details of the coordinating team
• Letter of support from the Social Movement endorsing the proposal (see letter template) here)
• Open Chair program proposal and working team 
• Proposal for the knowledge dissemination kit: summary of the axis through digital tools that allow dissemination on platforms and social networks (flyers, reels, short videos, podcast)

Applications will be accepted until February 10 2023.

1. The evaluation of the proposals will be carried out by a jury composed of members of the Executive Secretariat of CLACSO.
2. All proposals will be reviewed in their formal and administrative aspects by the CLACSO Executive Secretariat in order to verify their compliance with the terms of reference of the call.
3. The coordinators of each of the selected teams will be notified by email and must sign a letter of commitment stipulating the obligations of both parties.
4. The results will be disseminated through the CLACSO website, social media and electronic mailing lists.
