Community of Practice in Family Farming and Agroecology
The Latin American Council of Social Sciences participates in The new Community of Practice in Family Farming and Agroecology, promoted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) through the Family Farming Knowledge Platform (PCAF) and the Agroecology Knowledge Centre (CCA), where the Public Policy and Rural Development Network in Latin America (Red PP-AL), the Innovation and Impact Network, the SIAL Brazil Network (Network of Localized Agri-food Systems) and the Latin American Scientific Society of Agroecology (SOCLA) also contribute.
The Family Farming and Agroecology Community of Practice brings together committed individuals working on issues related to family farming and agroecology, enabling them to share and co-create information, knowledge, and advice to achieve sustainable food and agricultural systems. Members discuss experiences and reflect on how to address specific challenges, implement concrete actions, and support public policy development.
It offers a platform for farmers' organizations, cooperatives, civil society organizations, research centers, NGOs, decision-makers and the private sector linked to the topic, whose common goal is to identify opportunities and gaps to promote a change towards sustainable food systems.
This community exchanges information and ideas on practices, projects, lessons learned, initiatives, programs, public policies on family farming and agroecology, etc.
The community aims to:
• Sharing and co-creating knowledge among stakeholders, with a particular focus on successful agricultural technologies and innovations, best practices and case studies on family farming and agroecology (in areas such as crop production, livestock production, fisheries and aquaculture, forestry, post-harvest and marketing, natural resource management, nutrition and food security, capacity building, climate change and disaster risk reduction);
• Systematize practices and technologies to make them available to a wider audience, through the Family Farming Knowledge Platform (PCAF) and the Agroecology Knowledge Center (CCA);
• Promote the dissemination of knowledge and information for concrete actions and policy formulation in support of family farming and agroecology;
• To promote exchange and collaboration among professionals;
• Disseminate information about events and other opportunities related to family farming and agroecology;
• Provide support to address shared challenges related to family farming and agroecology;
• To support collective efforts to influence relevant policy areas; and,
• Promote family farming and agroecology.
