The CLACSO Working Groups on South-South Migration and Collective memories and resistance practices, We reject all forms of threats and aggression that undermine the free exercise of the right to investigate, teach, and publicly defend opinions.

A member of our Latin American Council of Social Sciences community, an academic at the University of Chile and an active researcher in both working groups, is being targeted with attacks and threats for her critical opinions on Chilean government immigration policies and for her support of migrants' rights. The situation has escalated to the point where a government official has called for her to be assaulted while simultaneously publicizing her personal information.

As researchers at CLACSO, an important space for political and academic reflection and critique, we condemn all attempts to silence dissenting viewpoints and all forms of intimidation against critical perspectives. We express our solidarity with our colleague who was attacked and call for vigilance against the increase in attacks of this nature, especially through social media, in a context where the pandemic forces us to carry out our academic work virtually, circulating a variety of videos, interviews, and public appearances.

We reiterate our commitment to defending human rights and the freedom to pursue our academic activities and express our opinions. We call on academics throughout Latin America not to be intimidated by these coercive practices.
