Statement accompanying the second judicial appearance of economist Andrés Arauz before the Court of Justice of Ecuador (July 11, 2025)
El CLACSO Working Group on Geopolitics, Regional Integration and the World System reitera su más firme respaldo al economista Andrés Arauz, quien este 11 de julio se presentará nuevamente ante la Corte de Justicia de Ecuador en el marco del denominado “caso Ligados”.
- Persistencia de la persecución política
Tras su primera comparecencia del 13 de junio, el uso arbitrario del aparato judicial y mediático contra Andrés Arauz no sólo se ha mantenido, sino que se ha intensificado. Lejos de aportar pruebas sustantivas, las autoridades continúan sosteniendo acusaciones infundadas que configuran un patrón de lawfare destinado a deslegitimar voces críticas y disuadir el debate público sobre los rumbos económicos y democráticos del país. - Compromiso con la democracia y la integración regional
Andrés Arauz ha dedicado su trayectoria intelectual y política a la defensa de la soberanía, la construcción de una arquitectura financiera propia y la integración solidaria de América Latina y el Caribe. Criminalizar a quienes promueven proyectos de desarrollo autónomo y justicia social constituye un grave retroceso para toda la región. - Call to the international community
Exhortamos a organismos multilaterales, instancias defensoras de derechos humanos y centros académicos a desplegar misiones de observación y mantenerse alertas ante cualquier vulneración de las garantías procesales. La vigilancia internacional es decisiva para impedir nuevos atropellos y salvaguardar la independencia judicial. - Acompañamiento activo
Our Working Group will be present, both in person and virtually, at the observation and denunciation activities planned for the hearing on July 11. For this occasion, we have appointed Dr. Tamara Lajtman, a member of our Working Group, as our representative on the international support delegation that will accompany Dr. Arauz during his appearance before the National Court of Justice.
