CLACSO received the TIAS from China
On Friday, September 4, Wei Ran , professor and researcher at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences (TIAS) of Tsinghua University, visited the executive headquarters of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences in Buenos Aires, where he was received by its Executive Director Pablo Vommaro and the Director of Editorial Production Fernanda Pampín.
Wei Ran is also a translator into Mandarin of works by Latin American authors such as Gabriel García Márquez, Roberto Bolaño, Walter Mignolo and Adolfo Bioy Casares.
They discussed collaborations between CLACSO and Tsinghua University on issues related to the Global South, the Latin American and Caribbean situation, innovation and Artificial Intelligence, and the Energy Transition.
It was also agreed to incorporate the Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences of Tsinghua University as an associated center to CLACSO.
The Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences at Tsinghua University is a high-level academic institution founded in 2009 in Beijing, China. It serves as Tsinghua University's main platform for interdisciplinary, transregional, and transcultural research in the humanities and social sciences.
The institute was conceived to rethink the theoretical and methodological tools of the social sciences in the face of the dynamics of globalization. Its main objective is to connect academic research with the debates and transformations of the contemporary world.
Their lines of study are organized around key conceptual axes such as State, society, nation, religion, identity, diversity and cultural interaction.
It also addresses transethnic, transregional, and transnational interactions to challenge Eurocentric paradigms or traditional disciplinary categorizations.
The TIAS brings together researchers and visiting professors from diverse disciplinary backgrounds, including: Philosophy and History; Literature; Political Science and Sociology; Law; Anthropology and Ethnology; Religious Studies.
Programs and work structure:
-TIAS Society of Fellows: A residential postdoctoral and academic stay program (articulated with the Shuimu Tsinghua Scholar program) dedicated to training and housing researchers in early and established stages of their career.
-International seminars and networks: It functions as a center for dialogue between Chinese academia and global networks of scholars from Asia, Europe and America, promoting seminars, reading workshops and joint publications.
