The International Book Fair for University Students (Filuni) is a meeting place for university publishers and an audience interested in learning about and connecting with the publishing output of higher education institutions in Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula. The fair promotes new releases, catalogs, and authors, and facilitates professional agreements related to the editing, distribution, marketing, and positioning of university books.

CLACSO, with a sustained participation over the years, is present again at FILUNI with stand No. 7 and the presence of its Executive Director, Pablo Vommaro, and its Editorial Production Director, Fernanda Pampín.

It was a space for collective reflection on the challenges and opportunities of our institutions where they discussed how to guarantee greater circulation, open access and democratization of knowledge in the region around the central question: what public and academic policies do we need to support these processes?

Boards

Panel. Youth, forms of participation and social transformation in Latin America and the Caribbean Thursday August 28. Clementina Díaz y de Ovando Hall

Latin American and Caribbean youth have historically been protagonists of social transformation processes, confronting structural inequalities with creativity and organization.
Young people have organized themselves into feminist, environmental, student, indigenous and human rights movements and have led protests and campaigns in countries such as Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Argentina, among others.
This panel sought to analyze youth from an intersectional perspective, considering gender, class, ethnicity and territory as key to understanding their struggles and resistance.

Pablo Vommaro maintained that "with creativity, organization and resilience, the youth They confront multiple inequalities and have shaped the political and social agenda with innovative proposals. Currently, the struggles against the far right also feature young people as protagonists, and it is essential to listen to them. In this panel, we seek to examine these experiences from an intersectional perspective: gender, class, ethnicity, and territory as key elements for understanding their struggles and also the current political disputes in the region. It's not just about the future: young people are transforming the present. concluded.

Meeting of Pablo Vommaro, Executive Director of CLACSO, with María Isabel CabreraPresident of the Union of Spanish University Publishers (UNE). They agreed on the need to implement concrete actions to promote open access and open science, which includes the use of public funds for public science, the rejection of publishing fees, the promotion of multilingualism, and the transformation of academic and scientific evaluation systems.

Pablo Vommaro He met with the Director General of Higher University and Intercultural Education of Mexico, Carlos Iván Moreno, with Ricardo Villanueva, Undersecretary of Higher Education of the SEP, along with Nayeli Quevedo, from the University Center for Economic and Administrative Sciences and representative of the CLACSO Mexico Centers.

Moreno emphasized that "In times of polarization and multiple crises, we need CLACSO more than ever: a network that connects thousands of researchers to critically examine our societies. The social sciences are not a luxury: they are a democratic compass, a critical memory, and a laboratory for the future. The discussion that CLACSO fosters is key to understanding and transforming the major challenges facing Latin America: education, inequality, democracy, AI, and climate change."

Vommaro, in turn, emphasized that “We are making progress on a shared work agenda and agree that CLACSO is more necessary than ever to produce critical knowledge that fuels transformation processes, defends democracies, and builds more just, participatory, and equitable societies. Through the CLACSO network, we are working on the most urgent issues for Latin America and the Caribbean, and Mexico can count on CLACSO to strengthen its public policies in education and other areas. It is about understanding and transforming our realities, advancing innovative proposals that are up to the challenges we face. We will continue working together.”
