In the field of Open Science, research evaluation is a cornerstone. The global consensus points to a necessary shift towards a more quality- and impact-based approach, encompassing a broader spectrum of research outcomes while safeguarding research integrity and reproducibility. Currently, research evaluation systems rely heavily on quantitative parameters based on journals and publications, which limits the scope of the evaluation.

This narrow approach leads to linguistic, geographical, thematic, and commercial biases that hinder scientific progress. In response to these challenges, initiatives such as CoARA in Europe and FOLEC-CLACSO in Latin America and the Caribbean have emerged, bringing together decision-makers, research organizations, and the academic community to implement coordinated Open Science practices within research evaluation.

The conference organizers maintain: “The time has come to act collectively. A concerted effort is needed to drive reforms in the various research assessment systems and practices, with the ultimate goal of strengthening research quality, fostering openness, improving performance, and increasing societal impact. By adopting an integrative approach, we can propel the scientific community toward a future of collaborative and transformative research.”
