CLACSO in the tribute to the indigenous peoples of Colombia

On Friday, December 1, CLACSO was present at an emotional tribute to the indigenous peoples of Colombia in the Intercultural Park of the Municipality of Sibundoy, department of Putumayo, near the border with Ecuador.

This was the “Commemoration of the Day of Ethnic and Cultural Diversity” organized within the framework of building Total Peace from the territories by the Colombian Ministry of the Interior, through the Vice Ministry for Social Dialogue, Equality and Human Rights in charge of Lilia SolanoThe Latin American Council of Social Sciences was represented by its Executive Director, Karina Batthyány; Pablo VommaroAcademic Secretary; Gustavo LemaDirector of Communication and Information; and Jaime Zuluaga on behalf of the CLACSO Member Centers of Colombia.

He opened the event Lilia SolanoHe asked everyone to entrust themselves “to Mother Earth, to the ancestral spirits, and to all those who come to bring their gift, their offering.” He clarified that “we wanted to hold this tribute on October 12th, which was formerly called Columbus Day, but which a few years ago was changed to the Day of Cultures and Diversities.” And he emphasized that “total peace, territorial peace, and dialogue are at the heart of this tribute.”

Karina Batthyány She conveyed greetings from CLACSO and stated that “it is a privilege to be part of this tribute to Indigenous peoples,” after which she invited everyone “to participate, to get involved, to take ownership of, to make the next Conference of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences your own, which will take place in mid-2025 in Bogotá, and where one of the central themes we will be working on is related to what we are celebrating here in Sibundoy. We want you to take ownership of this Conference; we want the different territories, the different communities, the diverse peoples who inhabit this Colombian land to be present at #CLACSO2025. Be present to participate, but above all to collectively and jointly build alternatives from Colombia for the entire Latin American and Caribbean region, which needs them so much at this moment. We believe that this is the best context for our Conference, to hold it in this Colombia that is going through this very interesting political process, which we are watching closely from other countries, and that is why we have chosen Colombia as the venue for our next Conference.”
