CLACSO in Catalonia

On Wednesday, March 11, Pablo VommaroExecutive Director of CLACSO, and Gloria AmézquitaAcademic Director, began the working sessions with the Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation (ACCD) together with the Open University of Catalonia and the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

This marked the beginning of the project “Networks for Change: Academic Integration and Critical Thinking for Regional Sustainable Development” and the launch of the Transformative Narratives Laboratory focused on global justice. The work is based on promoting social dialogue, active listening, networking and collaboration, co-creation processes, and public advocacy.

Then, on Thursday the 12th, there was a working meeting with Lafede – Global JusticeThe federation of 135 Catalan organizations is a network that promotes collective action and actively works to achieve global justice and the eradication of inequalities worldwide through development cooperation, the defense and promotion of human rights, and the fostering of a culture of peace, democracy, and non-violence.

There was an exchange of experiences after which they agreed to strengthen decolonial, feminist, anti-racist approaches, and those based on interconnected justice systems (gender, racial, climate, territorial, generational, epistemic, and algorithmic). They also agreed to work together on training and effective cooperation.

There was also a meeting with members of the Committee on European Union and External Action of the Parliament, from the Working Group on Gender Equality, Anti-racism and Non-discrimination (GEAN) and the Equality and Feminism Commission of the Parliament of Catalonia“We discussed the importance of Catalonia’s cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean from a non-extractive perspective, actively defending human rights and protecting human rights defenders, and promoting joint initiatives,” Pablo Vommaro explained.

Also, a working meeting and exchange with Andrea Costafreda, Director General of Development Cooperation of Catalonia, and with the Director of the Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation, Gerard Graells, with whom it was agreed to join efforts to sustain feminist, anti-racist and decolonial cooperation.
