The Center for Research in Politics and Economics (CIEPE) is a space created in 1995 with the objective of producing knowledge that contributes to the resolution of national and Latin American historical tasks.

The fundamental objective of its activities is to promote research, study, and analysis, producing databases for content development, the scientific construction of knowledge, and its ongoing dissemination. It is part of the CLACSO Network of Centers and the International Crisis Observatory (OIC).

The analysis of national and Latin American society is linked to the attempt to contribute to the development of social theory. To this end, sociological, economic, historical, and engineering perspectives are fundamentally integrated, with the common objective of understanding the basic relations of production and domination that constitute our society, both nationally and in Latin America, as well as internationally. This is done through the theories, methods, descriptions, observations, and measurements of these problem areas in Latin American societies, without excluding general theoretical questions.

The CIEPE is made up of researchers and professionals from Political Economy, Sociology, Philosophy, Geopolitics, Law, Education, International Relations, Social Communication, Political Science, Health, Agronomy, Veterinary Medicine, Engineering, Art and Design.

It brings together a group of social scientists dedicated to the study of the economy, the development of new economic actors and the relationships between actors; the global financial crisis; the new political forms of action and organization, the crisis of political actors, political parties and the institutional system and its transition towards transformation or restoration; and the plane of the formation of ideas-visions with their identities, formations and ideological matrices.
