Rómulo Gallegos Center for Latin American Studies – Venezuela
The Rómulo Gallegos House was founded on July 30, 1974 as a cultural center and is the headquarters of the Celarg Foundation. Rómulo Gallegos Center for Latin American Studies, Created under Decree No. 33.287 dated August 16, 1985, with the following purpose:
•To promote and guarantee the pursuit of Latin American and Caribbean integration through culture and to train people for cultural integration through plans, programs and study projects.
•Develop strategic areas and lines of research that respond to topics of interest and debate in the Latin American sphere.
•Develop fourth-level studies that allow for reflection and exchange of knowledge on Latin American and Caribbean thought.
•To award the Rómulo Gallegos International Novel Prize, the Libertador Prize for Critical Thought, the Mariano Picón Salas International Essay Prize, the Víctor Valera Mora International Poetry Prize and the Fernando Paz Castillo National Poetry Prize.
•To stimulate Latin American intellectual creation through workshops, exhibitions, courses, conferences, forums, round tables, competitions, congresses and publications.
•To rescue, preserve and disseminate the documentary, bibliographic and hemerographic heritage of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Latin America and the Caribbean.
•Design programs and projects for periodicals, books, and collections under the guidelines of the affiliated body.
•To be a driving force, articulating and integrating the cultural and intellectual movement in Our America.
Celarg is chaired by Dr. Pedro Calzadilla Pérez, since September 18, 2023.
National Program of Advanced Training in Latin American Studies
The start of postgraduate studies at both levels: master's and doctorate, constitutes a great historical achievement for the institution, the country, and the Latin American and Caribbean region.
Modality: The PNFA-ENA is managed under a multimodal model, offering both in-person and virtual activities. The Program has a single curriculum with two administrative systems.
The first program is the Doctoral degree, with five tracks, which begins with the student's admission and serves as the central focus of their doctoral research. The second program, the Master's degree, with four tracks, is characterized by its emphasis on developing methodological, theoretical, and knowledge-based skills to enable students to conduct their research according to the parameters and objectives of the PNFA-ENA (National Program for Training in Advanced Studies - National School of Administration).
Students in the National Advanced Training Program in Our American Studies will develop the following competencies throughout the proposed activities:
•Interdisciplinary training for academic and/or professional practice at the highest level.
•Professional and academic experience in leading interdisciplinary work and research groups.
•Formulation, management and evaluation of research projects.
•Training in research theory and methodology with a view to continuing doctoral studies in the case of master's students.
•Studies, research projects and work products of both an academic and professional nature.
•Preparation to perform as teachers, researchers and high-level professionals.
•To have the foundations and ethics for professional and academic practice, as well as for participation in interdisciplinary work and research groups.
•To contribute, with original and viable solutions, to the problems of Latin America and the Caribbean, from a perspective of unity and integration of our America.
• Critical and creative ability in one of the fields of knowledge of the Program.
Degree awarded: Master of Science in Our American Studies and Doctor of Our American Studies.

Research as a substantive process
For over twenty years, Celarg has offered a Research Grant program, now called the Mariátegui Research Incentive Program, which in 2024 was funded by the National Fund for Science and Technology (Fonacyt) of the Ministry of Popular Power for Science and Technology of Venezuela. The latest call for proposals, open in May 2024, received one hundred and twenty-six (126) project submissions based on the following areas of interest: economics, international relations, history, society, gender, culture, thought and philosophy, arts, politics and power, communication, heritage, identities, literature, migration, environment, popular power, socialist construction, decolonization, and the life and work of Rómulo Gallegos.
63 projects have been approved and are under development, corresponding to the 2024-25 cycle, whose titles are part of the first evaluation matrix.
