We celebrate the election of Elisa Loncón as president of the Constitutional Convention

The members of CLACSO Working Group on anti-patriarchal struggles, families, genders, diversities and citizenship We celebrate the election of Elisa Loncón, an academic and Mapuche activist, as president of the Constitutional Convention.

This achievement reflects the progress of intersectional feminist collective struggles in Chile and in many countries of the region; likewise, it calls for redoubling efforts and activism to continue making visible, denouncing and taking action to resolve the inequalities that mark the history of our Latin American peoples and the South-South coordinates.

We are proud to share this historic milestone where a Mapuche and feminist woman takes office.

We congratulate her on her new role and the challenges that constitutional reform presents in these times and amidst the new neoliberal struggles to expand democracy. We reaffirm that she is not alone in facing them.

From the diverse territories of Abya Yala, we will continue to support and work together for greater social democratization. We share the struggles to build another possible world.

Our energies are transmitted and transcend borders, converging in the sisterhoods necessary to transform our societies and support each other on the journey.
