Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Jtatic Samuel Ruiz García, the 50th Anniversary of the Indigenous Congress, the 10th Anniversary of the Mother Earth Congress, and the Challenges of Current Times
El CLACSO Working Group Bodies, Territories, ResistancesIn response to the invitation from the Diocese of San Cristóbal de Las Casas to "foster together spaces for dialogue, reflection and organized action in favor of life, peace with justice and dignity," they share the statement they issued on October 5, 2024, at the end of the Diocesan Jubilee Congress "on the occasion of celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Jtatic Samuel Ruiz García, the 50th anniversary of the Indigenous Congress, the 10th anniversary of the Congress of Mother Earth and the challenges of these current times."
El Diocesan Jubilee Congress This is not only a historical event but also a very important one in the context of an ongoing war in Chiapas (and Mexico) that is not only unrecognized but denied by the Mexican State and its various levels of government. In response, the vibrant movement of the Faithful People, the actions of the Ecclesiastical Province of Chiapas, the Diocesan institution of the Catholic Church, as well as the pastoral work initiated more than 60 years ago by then-Bishop Jtatic Samuel Ruiz and a team of committed religious and lay people, are fundamental to building both community and actions that seek to embody and root Peace in these times of horror, war, and death.
