Bolivia returns to the path of democracy
The Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) congratulates the Bolivian people for their resounding support for the return to the path of democracy and full respect for the Constitution with their vote on Sunday, October 18, 2020.
On November 11, 2019, CLACSO joined the many who unequivocally denounced the coup d'état and made "a call to preserve the lives of Bolivians, to stop the attacks and persecutions, and to find a peaceful and negotiated solution that, although laborious, is based on the will of the majority of the people of the Plurinational State of Bolivia and its legitimate institutions."
Bolivia faces a difficult road to reconstruction. It has the broad popular support expressed at the polls and the solidarity of those of us who fight for democracy and justice in Latin America, the Caribbean, and the world. This will allow it to overcome the 11 months of abuses and economic policies that disregarded the interests of Bolivian women and men, who today have succeeded in having their voices and will respected.
