Ayacucho Library in open access

The President of the Ayacucho Library Foundation, Luis Alberto Crespo, spoke with the Executive Secretary of CLACSO, Karina Batthyány, about the history and projection of the Venezuelan institution, which this year celebrated 45 years since its creation in 1974.

Luis Alberto Crespo emphasized that “The Americanist concept that the Ayacucho Library has had since its founding, based on the sisterhood agreement with CLACSO, becomes stronger, more definitive and with a greater purpose.” In turn, Karina Batthyány recalled CLACSO's purpose of “to incorporate new lines into the current work of the Library, lines linked to indigenous peoples, to the environmental issue and also around gender issues and sexual diversity.”

On September 10th, in Caracas, the Latin American Council of Social Sciences and the Ayacucho Library signed important agreements with the presence of the Minister of Culture of Venezuela Ernesto Villegas and the Vice Minister of the portfolio Raúl Cazal.

The Biblioteca Ayacucho is the most important publishing initiative in Latin American and Caribbean culture. Founded in 1974 in homage to the Battle of Ayacucho, which in 1824 signified the political emancipation of Our America, it has, since its inception, promoted dynamic and constant relationships between the present and the American past, critically reevaluating it from the perspective of our time.

Through its 8 collections - among which its Classical Collection stands out - it keeps alive the cultural legacy of our continent, as a whole suitable for the social, political and cultural transformation of our countries.
