Attack against the sovereignty and people of Venezuela
Before the international community, the CLACSO Venezuela Network of Centers strongly condemns the armed attack perpetrated today, January 3, 2026, by the United States government against the sovereignty and people of Venezuela.
This military aggression represents a critical point in an escalation of interference and violence that we have systematically denounced.
We consider this fact to constitute:
- A criminal violation of international lawThis is an act of colonial war that tramples on the UN Charter and the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace.
- An assault motivated by lootingThe objective is the control of Venezuelan strategic resources, disguised under unfounded pretexts.
- An attack on the self-determination of all peoplesIt is a blow against the principle of sovereignty and a dangerous precedent for humanity.
We support Venezuela's legitimate right to comprehensive defense and urgently call for popular mobilization and civic-military unity, as well as the activation of all national defense plans. We demand that the United States government immediately reveal the whereabouts and guarantee the physical safety of Constitutional President Nicolás Maduro Moros and his wife, Cilia Flores, and provide proof of life for both of them.
We urge the global academic community, social movements, and the peoples of the world to activate a militant and effective solidarityIt is urgent to organize protest, critical debate, and political pressure to stop this war of plunder.
