Arts, education and citizenship

Starting from the questioning of the established system of disciplinary hierarchies within cultural and educational institutions, still dominated by the paradigm of a logocentric, patriarchal and rational culture, the CLACSO Working Group on Arts, Education and Citizenship

It reflects on the modifications that the arts produce or can produce in epistemic, pedagogical and organizational models, in order to break the structures of thought that reproduce power in our societies and move towards the construction of citizenship as an essential element to rethink democracy, sustainability and resilience in the contemporary scenario.

Our proposal builds upon a process of political and academic collaboration that has been underway at the region's art universities, along with their faculties, programs, and departments. The Working Group also aims to strengthen this network in order to consolidate a shared agenda based on the human right to knowledge, education, and the arts.

To achieve this, we propose 4 main areas of work:

1. Right to the arts in education: pedagogies, creation and research, interdisciplinarity and interculturality, evaluation and accreditation
2. Arts, cultural and educational policies and social transformation: culture, economy and society
3. Arts, citizenship and contemporaneity: digital revolution, Anthropocene and Good Living
4. The arts and humanities within the framework of knowledge governance in cognitive capitalism and in the construction of collective subjectivities/temporalities
