Support from the CLACSO Working Group on Geopolitics, Regional Integration and the World System for economist Andrés Arauz

Support from the CLACSO Working Group on Geopolitics, Regional Integration and the World System for economist Andrés Arauz

The Working Group on Geopolitics, Regional Integration and the World System of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) expresses its strongest rejection of the political and judicial persecution undertaken by the government of Daniel Noboa against Andrés Arauz, co-coordinator and active member of our Working Group and a prominent intellectual and political figure in Latin American critical thought.

The recent accusations against him, linked to the so-called "Ligados case," constitute a clear act of retaliation for his ongoing work denouncing the serious illegalities, abuses, and unconstitutional acts committed by the current Ecuadorian government. Far from being a legitimate pursuit of justice, this offensive is part of a strategy of political persecution through the judicial and media channels (lawfare) aimed at silencing and criminalizing those who defend democracy, national sovereignty, and the rights of the people.

Andrés Arauz has made fundamental contributions to regional and international debates on integration, alternative financial architecture, and the defense of natural resources. His commitment to the transformation of Latin America and the Caribbean, from a sovereign, solidarity-based, and democratic perspective, has been widely recognized by academic communities, social and political movements, and multilateral organizations.

From the Working Group we are part of at CLACSO, we express our full solidarity with Andrés Arauz and demand an immediate end to the judicial and media persecution against him. We call on the international academic community, human rights organizations, and democratic institutions to remain vigilant against this attempt at political intimidation, which threatens not only one individual, but the entire struggle for democracy in Latin America.
