I support Marcio Pochmann, a prominent Brazilian intellectual and member of the CLACSO network.
It was with great perplexity that we saw the attack by security forces giving a great impression to Marcio Pochmann. Such offensive does not find foundation in a minimally objective analysis of reality.
During his tenure at IPEA, Pochmann extensively renewed the Institute, through various initiatives that address historical interests that have remained in obsolete molds. It held public tenders to expand its technical-administrative body, conferring the status of State career to providing it with autonomy in the face of political indications; opened the program of Chairs that integrated economic and social thinking, or that allowed updating the contributions of names such as Celso Furtado, Darcy Ribeiro, Ruy Mauro Marini, Florestan Fernandes and Milton Santos; created the Directorate of International Relations that internationalized the institution that was strongly separated from two major global issues; established a desk for the country, in Latin America, prioritizing regional integration, or multilateralism in Brazil's active role in the construction of a new, more democratic and plural international order, which can convert the development in one direction and strengthen the role of the Global South in managing the two destinies of the world system.
An economist with an inquisitive curriculum, Pochmann is a forceful critic of the structural inequality that permeates the pattern of neoliberal accumulation that, however, has never dissolved in our country since the 1990s, being deeply skeptical of the narratives that present Brazil as a middle-class country during the first half of the decade. passed
His name to the Presidency of IBGE traces the best of national-popular thought to the management of an important Brazilian public institution. The reaction of the hegemonic media to its name is the expression of sectors that were involved in the coup of 1964 and only its heirs, limiting the scope of redemocratization in the New Republic, articulating the coup of 2016 and wanting a functional State for the internal bourgeoisie and the oligarchies that diminish the possibilities of Brazil, financializing, deindustrializing, and subordinating to a decadent unipolar leadership represented by American imperialism. The fascist threat that surrounds the Brazilian State is the expression of a rhetorical democracy, void of popular support. Restore plurality and debate on models of
The development of accumulation patterns in our country is absolutely fundamental to concretize the legitimacy of our institutions and to avert the risk of political disaster in our near future.
We support the appointment of Márcio Pochmann and wish him a firm and serene gesture.
