In response to the acts of intimidation and persecution against the Central American University of Nicaragua
Statement from the CLACSO Steering Committee
The Steering Committee of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) stands in solidarity with the Central American University of Nicaragua in the face of the government's closure of spaces and mechanisms for dialogue and understanding.
It also expresses its concern about the acts of intimidation and persecution being carried out against authorities, staff and students of the UCA, which are being denounced nationally and internationally.
Convinced that education plays a key role in the development and well-being of our societies, we find it incomprehensible that a university is being attacked, and unacceptable when it is an institution of higher education that has been characterized, since its founding, by a commitment to the Nicaraguan historical and revolutionary process.
CLACSO remains steadfast in its commitment to truth, justice, democracy, and solidarity, and will continue working to ensure that the social sciences and humanities contribute to the liberation of our Latin American and Caribbean peoples from everything that threatens their dignity and independence.
