In response to state violence in Ecuador

In response to state violence in Ecuador

From the CLACSO Working Group: The State as a Contradiction We denounce and strongly condemn the serious escalation of state violence by the Government Daniel Noboa's actions against social mobilizations. This alarming repression includes militarization of indigenous territories and entire cities, disproportionate use of force against peaceful protesters, indigenous people, farmers, students, arbitrary arrests, criminalization of leaders and extrajudicial executions, such as that of the community leader Efraín Fuerez.

La generalized crisis and economic measures Executive actions, such as the elimination of the diesel subsidy, exacerbated discontent in the poorest and most vulnerable sectors of the country, generating the protests which have been in place since September 21.

We join to the pronouncement of the international human rights community, academic networks, social movements and multilateral organizations in their statement that These actions constitute serious violations of human rights and the rights of indigenous peoples. and remember that their rights, the right to protest and to resist It is protected by multiple instruments
international.

Likewise We demand of the Ecuadorian Government:

• Immediate withdrawal of military and police forces from mobilized areas, indigenous territories, and cessation of repression.
•Protection for persecuted human rights defenders, journalists and social leaders.
• Independent investigation of all human rights violations.
• Release of people detained for exercising their right to protest.
• Restoration of violated rights.
• Protection for persecuted human rights defenders, journalists and social leaders.

Peaceful protest is a fundamental right. Militarization, a state control strategy unleashed throughout Latin America, cannot be the response of a democratic state. Today, more than ever, Ecuador needs justice, dignity, and dialogue.

The Ecuadorian people are not alone! Ecuador resists! Ecuador does not surrender!
