In the face of the crisis in Ukraine

For an urgent peaceful resolution and the defense of the people

The geopolitical conflict between Ukraine and Russia, with all its complexity and historical roots, must be urgently directed towards a peaceful and negotiated resolution that is based on the interests and defense of the people and avoids the high humanitarian and destructive costs that it entails.

People are the first victims of wars and economic sanctions, therefore hostilities must cease as soon as possible.

Peace in the region is built through dialogue, consensus, without aggression, without the use of force between states, respecting the self-determination of peoples and human rights.

The fragile balance in the region has been broken by Russian aggression against Ukraine and by the advance of NATO expansionism at the gates of the Russian Federation, and it can only be restored by respecting the sovereignty of all and prioritizing regional and international peace.

From Latin America and the Caribbean—declared a Zone of Peace—we owe it to ourselves to conduct a deeper study of the problems in Eastern Europe. Therefore, CLACSO is committed to opening a space for debate and analysis approached from a multidimensional perspective: historical, legal, sociological, political, and economic.
