 Stop the aggression against Venezuela

Following our Conversation: Venezuela, neocolonialism and the US military offensiveWe, the members of the CLACSO Working Group Marxisms and Resistances of the Global SouthWe strongly condemn the multidimensional aggression that the US government has been waging against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela for more than 25 years, recently aggravated by the deployment of naval and air forces in the Caribbean Sea, including a submarine with nuclear missiles, under the pretext of fighting drug trafficking.

It is absurd and yet another slander to implicate President Nicolás Maduro in organized crime, following the interventionist tradition of the White House and its habitual violation of the most basic norms of international law and respect among nations; an act of desperation in the face of the failure of its numerous strategies against the Bolivarian Revolution, which the majority of the Venezuelan people have sustained and defended with great effort and sacrifice. We salute the massive popular mobilization in favor of the civic-military union, and the readiness to fight in defense of sovereignty and the achievements of the Bolivarian and Chavista revolution.

The true interest of US political, economic, and military power lies in Venezuela's significant strategic resources: its oil, gas, and gold, with the largest reserves on the planet, its land, and its geopolitical location. Just as it did in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other nations militarily attacked by the United States, imperialism seeks to impose governments subservient to its interests in order to secure its natural wealth and the subjugation of its people.

Latin America and the Caribbean is a region of peace, a signatory to the Treaty of Tlatelolco on the prohibition of nuclear weapons, where political differences are resolved peacefully through multilateral mechanisms. In Our America, no form of intimidation from the United States or any other foreign power can be tolerated.

We fully support the people and government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. We demand an end to the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed since 2017, and we call upon communities connected to the world of culture, intellectuals, academia and university life, research, education, communication, artistic production, and social movements, committed to building popular power, to demonstrate in support of Venezuela and President Nicolás Maduro. If imperialism attacks one, it attacks us all.
