Alfredo Molano Bravo (1944-2019)

On Thursday, October 31, the prominent Colombian sociologist and journalist Alfredo Molano Bravo passed away . A scholar of conflicts and social struggles, he was also a staunch defender of the peace process—a comprehensive peace with equality and justice. In that capacity, he served on his country's Truth Commission.

Molano Bravo was a rigorous, critical intellectual, deeply committed to his time. He drew inspiration from great masters whose teachings he acknowledged in his work: " From Orlando Fals, the real country; from Camilo Torres, the possible country; and from Eduardo Umaña, ethics ," he once reflected.

In 2017, by decision of the Member Centers of Colombia, CLACSO awarded him the “CLACSO 50 Years” Prize at a public ceremony in Bogotá. He was later one of the keynote speakers at the 2018 CLACSO Conference and Forum in Buenos Aires.

Today we say goodbye to a friend, a colleague, an indispensable Latin American intellectual.
