This new global era demands a reformulation of the old paradigms of the "green revolution" and the 20th-century industrial agricultural model. The strong impact of intensive agro-industrial processes, from systemic agrochemicals and the energy involved to the ultra-processed products offered to society as food, is changing the way food systems function, and in many cases, in ways far removed from the sustainability of ecosystems. This book brings together the results of research projects carried out thanks to the support of the McKnight Foundation and CLACSO alliance in the "Research and Training Program on Andean Agroecological Systems." Its chapters explore, through the study of small-scale agriculture in local communities in the highlands of Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia, how agroecology—as a science, practice, and movement—contributes to building a new food model, with the expectation of placing the issue on the political and academic agenda of the region.
