Thank you for your solidarity and support for Dr. Andrés Arauz
The CLACSO Working Group on Geopolitics, Regional Integration and the World System expresses his sincere gratitude to the colleagues of the Working Groups and the academic community of CLACSO for the numerous expressions of solidarity and active support in the face of the political persecution that our colleague and comrade Andrés Arauz is experiencing.
In the name of CLACSO Working Group on Geopolitics, Regional Integration and the World SystemAnd as members of the international accompaniment delegation, we would like to inform you that this morning, June 13, 2025, Andrés Arauz appeared before the National Court of Justice of Ecuador, complying with the precautionary measures imposed by the judicial authorities.
The appearance proceeded with institutional normality. Andrés was received with affection, respect, and energy by political activists, citizens, and representatives from various social sectors who came to express their support.
The presence of the international delegation—comprised of academics, parliamentarians, and human rights defenders from Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, and Chile—aimed to observe the process and give regional and international visibility to the commitment to human rights, the presumption of innocence, and due process.
This collective action reaffirms the active role that critical academic spaces must assume in the face of the onslaught of lawfare and the criminalization of ideas in Latin America.
We will remain vigilant and united in the defense of democracy in its broadest sense, of our colleagues, and of freedom of thought in our region.
With appreciation,
City of Bogotá
