CLACSO Working Group on Afro-descendants and counter-hegemonic proposals
The risk of writing a foreword to such an analytical and polyphonic book, woven from Afro-descendant voices, is immense. There is no doubt that the work is relevant and destined to become a reference point in both academic and public policy matters. And, in this context, intense debates are emerging in the face of these new realities.
With this new work, we return to the dialogue on pressing issues that inform academic development and political practices in this field. The purpose is to continue the path of unconventional learning, collectively building spaces for reflection and transformation.
This text completes the Afrodescendants trilogy, developed by our Working Group (WG) “Afrodescendants and Counter-Hegemonic Proposals” at the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO). It follows Afrodescendants: Voices in Resistance (2018) and Afrodescendants and Counter-Hegemonies: Challenging the Decade (2019). Taken together, these three books mark the insurgent path of continuity in academic production focused on the anti-racist struggle. The articulation between activism and academia constitutes the structuring axis of this trilogy.
This unified initiative represents a watershed moment in a context of global crisis, facing new realities and challenges. It emerges 20 years after the World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance, at a time when the historical warning has regained relevance.
