Afro-descendants and counter-hegemonic proposals
Matanzas, Cuba – Carlota: Icon of rebellion

El CLACSO Working Group on Afro-descendants and counter-hegemonic proposalsFounded in 2016, it is a pioneer in the production, training processes and dissemination of knowledge in the field of Afro-descendant studies.
It is distinguished by its place of enunciation, since it is made up of researchers, Afro-descendant activists and public policy officials with the predominance of the voices of Black intellectuals and leaders from the Americas and Africa from Argentina, Brazil, Cameroon, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, the United States, Haiti, Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
It bridges academia and the Afro-descendant movement based on a perspective rooted in Afro-epistemology and Black feminisms. It has developed the program of action "Beyond the International Decade for People of African Descent," which has generated powerful initiatives to promote sustained academic and political action within the context of the Decade.
Among its objectives, the following stand out:
• To collectively build knowledge from a decolonial, anti-racist and intersectional perspective in the field of Afro-descendant studies.
• To contribute to the theoretical, methodological and political training of researchers, activists and public policy leaders in the field of Afro-descendant studies.
• To promote black feminisms as a field of study, political action, place of enunciation and militant social articulation.
• To make visible the political thought and action of Afro-descendants.
• To create a permanent and growing space for collaboration with academic networks and institutions and the Afro-descendant movement.
