Goodbye to Wim Dierckxsens

With sadness, we announce the passing of a doctor of social sciences Wim DierckxsensDutch by birth, Costa Rican by adoption, recognized both for his academic performance and for his intellectual and militant commitment to Our America, social movements and popular sectors.

Wim Dierckxsens was born in Hulst, Netherlands, in 1946. An economist by training, with a PhD in Social Sciences from the University of Nijmegen and postgraduate studies in Demography from the Sorbonne University, he worked as a researcher at the Ecumenical Department of Research (DEI) in Costa Rica, was Coordinator of the International Crisis Observatory, Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Latin American Society of Political Economy and Critical Thought (SEPLA), and Vice President of the World Forum of Alternatives (FMA).

His work has contributed particularly to the labor movement and the cooperative movement. He actively participated in numerous meetings, congresses, and organizational spaces that seek to develop and promote alternative experiences to the global order, including the World Social Forum in Porto Alegre and the Hemispheric Meeting of Struggle against the FTAA, where he addressed the topic of social movements against war and neoliberalism.

Author and co-author of more than a dozen books, the book he wrote in 2016 with Walter Formento can be downloaded in open access from the Latin American and Caribbean Social Sciences Bookstore: “Geopolitics of the global economic crisis. Globalism vs. Universalism".
