Goodbye to Víctor Manuel Moncayo
This Sunday, April 19, we are saddened by the news of the passing of the academic and member of the CLACSO Network Victor Manuel Moncayo, who was the former Rector of the National University of Colombia between 1997 and 2003. He had also served as dean of the Faculty of Law, Political and Social Sciences and as a professor of urban and regional planning.
A Doctor of Law from the National University of Colombia and a professor and researcher in political and legal theory, Moncayo is the author of numerous works published in the Latin American Council of Social Sciences and has been part of various Working Groups.
Currently, we were working on a book that brings together his work to be included in the CLACSO “Legacies” Collection.
We highlight his contribution and critical reflection on the public university, the right to education for all, and the Theory of the State.
Víctor Manuel Moncayo was one of the panelists who opened the X Latin American and Caribbean Conference of Social Sciences #CLACSO2025 in Bogotá in June 2025.
Panel #CLACSO2025: “Democracy, human rights and peace: foundations for coexistence in the 21st century”
The social and political significance of the Peace Agreement
Book coordinated by Víctor Manuel Moncayo: “Anthology of contemporary Colombian critical thought"
To his family, colleagues, and fellow travelers, go the warmest of memories, with the certainty that his work will outlive him for future generations.
