Goodbye to Rossana Reguillo

 Goodbye to Rossana Reguillo

Rossana ReguilloA renowned Mexican researcher, professor, and anthropologist, passed away on Saturday, April 25. The Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) pays tribute to a member of the CLACSO Network and one of the most insightful and committed voices in our region. A member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences, her work not only transformed cultural and communication studies but also built bridges where before there were only chasms of misunderstanding.

The fundamental pillars he has bequeathed to us are:

-His teachings about young people not being passive subjects, but full political actors who dispute the meaning of the world.

– His analysis of contemporary violence has been fundamental to understanding how power is exercised over death in our territories.

-In recent years, his pioneering work has revealed the traps of post-truth and the potential of networks for citizen resistance.

As an active member of the CLACSO Working Groups, she has mentored generations and championed critical thinking that is not afraid to confront power, always with methodological rigor as a shield and empathy as a driving force.

In 2025, he participated in episode 3 of our podcast series “The monsters are on the loose”, titled “The wounds of politicsIn this work, she analyzes the impact of techno-digital change, new political subjectivities, and social media as spaces of resistance. For Rossana Reguillo, technological acceleration alone is insufficient to understand the expansion of the far right, and she asks, “What is happening to those thousands of voters? What is their wound?”

Monsters are on the loose – “The wounds of politics. Rossana Reguillo (Mexico)” – Episode 3
