Goodbye to Norma Vasallo Barrueta

 Goodbye to Norma Vasallo Barrueta

The CLACSO Working Group “Feminisms, resistances and emancipation” and the Social Sciences community of the region communicate with deep sorrow the physical disappearance of the intellectual Norma Vasallo Berrueta, who was a productive member of our collective for years.

We extend our affection and condolences to his family and colleagues.

Norma was a professor at the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Havana and, almost from its inception, President of the Women's Studies Chair at that institution. Her work on female subjectivity and the impact of discrimination on the lives of Cuban and Latin American women is essential reading and a guiding force for reflection and emancipation. Her unwavering commitment to social justice and equality serves as inspiration and an example for all generations of feminists and researchers.

Norma continues to live on in her intellectual and ethical legacy, in the brotherhood built through experiences and work, and in her sowing of transformative knowledge.
