Goodbye to Charles Quevedo, co-coordinator of the GT Intellectuals, Ideas and Politics
Charles Quevedo, co-coordinator of the CLACSO Working Group on Intellectuals, Ideas and Politics.
Charles held a degree in Philosophy (UNA) and a Master's degree in Social Sciences from the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO), with the thesis "From Class Against Class to the Popular Front: The Communist Party of Paraguay and the Communist International (1928-1937)" (2020). A teacher and researcher, he left behind a prolific body of work on Latin American and Paraguayan thought and the development of the intellectual field, reflected in contributions to newspapers, books, prestigious journals, and dialogues with social movements in Paraguay and the region.
In 2016, she won and published, along with Lorena Soler and Dalila Sosa Marín, the Anthology of Paraguayan Critical Thought (CLACSO) award, later reissued by FLACSO and OEI. She maintained a focus on the field of art, which manifested itself, among other works, in her biography of Livio Abramo. In 2020, together with Alfredo Falero and Lorena Soler, as a result of the previous edition of the working group “Knowledge and Power: Intellectuals and Ideas in the Configuration of the Relations between Knowledge and Politics in Latin America and the Caribbean,” she coordinated the book Intellectuals, Democracy, and the Right Wing (CLACSO, Colectivo Editorial). More recently, she dedicated her research to constructing the history of the Paraguayan Communist Party, as well as to analyzing the transformations of the intellectual and political landscape in the region.
With Charles's passing, we lose one of the most refined and insightful young minds in Paraguayan thought. We bid him farewell with affection and wish his family and loved ones strength to face this sad moment.
