Contreras, a renowned sociologist, communication specialist, and expert in regional integration, built his career in international organizations and academia. He served as Director General and Secretary General of the Andean Community (CAN), and held key roles at the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) and the International Center for Higher Studies in Communication for Latin America (CIESPAL).
