Ayacucho Library in open access
With the presence of the Minister of Culture of Venezuela Ernesto Villegas and the Vice Minister of the portfolio Raúl Cazal, the Latin American Council of Social Sciences and the Ayacucho Library signed important agreements on Tuesday, September 10 in Caracas.
The ceremony was shared by the President of the Ayacucho Library Foundation, Luis Alberto Crespo, and, representing CLACSO, its Executive Secretary Karina Batthyány and the Director of Training and Editorial Production, Nicolás Arata.
The Venezuelan Ministry of Culture for People's Power, CLACSO, and the Ayacucho Library Foundation are joining forces to make a selection of books from the Classic Collection available in open access, allowing readers across the continent and around the world to access the best of our traditions, an expression of the vitality and plurality of American and Caribbean social thought. Karina Batthyány highlighted the importance of this launch for CLACSO Radio.
The Biblioteca Ayacucho is the most important publishing initiative in Latin American and Caribbean culture, and today it commemorates its 45th anniversary. Founded in 1974 in homage to the Battle of Ayacucho, which in 1824 signified the political emancipation of Our America, it has, since its inception, promoted dynamic and constant relationships between the present and the American past, critically reevaluating it from a contemporary perspective.

Through its 8 collections - among which its Classical Collection stands out - the Ayacucho Library keeps alive the cultural legacy of our continent, as a set suitable for the social, political and cultural transformation of our countries.
The first cooperation meeting between both institutions dates back to July 11, at the facilities of the Venezuelan publishing house, with the participation of the president of the Ayacucho Library, Luis Alberto Crespo, and the president of the National Book Center of Venezuela, Raúl Cazal, who together with Nicolás Arata and Ramón Torres established various agreements to promote the development of the dissemination and co-edition of new publications that promote the social sciences and humanities of Latin America and the Caribbean.
