VI Workshop on Identities, Cultures and Youth

The Identity Studies Group of the Cuban Institute of Cultural Research “Juan Marinello” (ICIC) announces the sixth edition of the Workshop on Identities, Cultures, and Youth, to be held on May 12 and 13. The event is sponsored by the Science and Innovation Program “Cuban, Latin American, and Caribbean Cultural Identity: Its Strengthening in the Face of the Economic and Social Transformations of the Contemporary World” and the Network for Cultural Identity Studies.
The meeting acknowledges the diversity and complexity of the identity configurations of adolescents and young people, based on the heterogeneity of contemporary Cuban society, as well as its interaction with global influences of varying significance. It subscribes to the interpenetration of different content and levels of identity structuring, which allows us to visualize generational factors articulated with gender, skin color, class, territory, etc., and expressed in national and cultural identity.
The event will feature six panels dedicated to the following themes: Fidel Castro's thought in shaping youth: Intergenerational experiences and reflections; Identities, inequalities, and vulnerabilities in adolescents and young people; Gender identities and comprehensive sexuality education in adolescents and young people; Identities, consumption, and cultural participation; Identities and situations of disability: Challenges to inclusion and equity; and Emancipatory pedagogies in the formation of the cultural identity of adolescents and young people.
These panels will allow us to approach the content of identities in Cuban youth and adolescents; their processes of formation and transformation, with emphasis on the cultural and economic aspects and mediations of greatest impact today, including social participation, the management of community cultural development, and the tensions between equity and social inequalities.
The meeting gives relevance to multi, inter and transdisciplinary analyses, and is committed to innovative proposals capable of capturing the complexity of current Cuban society and contributing to its transformation and improvement.
The workshop will take place at the ICIC headquarters, located on Avenida Rancho Boyeros, between Bruzón and Lugareño, Plaza municipality, Havana, Cuba.
