The university is in crisis. One could even argue that the civilizational crisis the world is experiencing stems from a cognitive crisis, one from which the university is not exempt, given its failure to reinvent itself as a key player in overcoming the problems plaguing humanity and ecosystems. Latin America and the Caribbean are no exception to this assessment, and face even additional challenges, bearing the "original sin" of being born from colonial and patriarchal processes that contributed to the rise of capitalism.
The Co/Research-Creation Laboratory “Reimagining the Public University from the Global South” (RUPSur) is an initiative of different institutions, groups and researchers that, while continuing to reclaim and recover the democratic and committed traditions of the Latin American university, proposes to rethink the university of the continent and the Global South in terms of the strategic role that this institution has in the challenges of development, integration and social justice.
RUPSur promotes an innovative transdisciplinary approach that recognizes the connection between arts, humanities, sciences, technologies and other related knowledge.
This broad vision makes it possible to face challenges in a complete, original, inclusive and sustainable way, using tools and methodologies provided by science and technology for data analysis and research, but also putting into play the non-logocentric forms of knowledge production that the arts, ancestral knowledge and traditional practices allow us to explore.
