The voice of women in democratic reconstruction: The Unidas magazine and its intellectual history (IIGG)

May 15 - 5:30 pm - 7:30 PM CMT

Guest: Valeria Caruso

Commented by: Evangelina Margiolakis

Summary:

The conference aims to explore the intellectual contributions of social scientists and historians to the process of Argentina's democratic reconstruction. Within this context, the journal Unidas (1985) encapsulates a series of concerns regarding the reconstruction of various aspects of women's history in Argentine political and social life. Analyzing different initiatives allows us to identify some of the prevailing postulates concerning the links between politics and the intellectual sphere. The reflections published in this journal express the expectations placed on democracy as a foundational stage for Argentine institutional life, and on the renewal of Peronism as its arena for realization.
