From June 25 to 27, 2026, the event will be held in Belém, Pará state, Brazil. First Meeting of Professors and Researchers on the Problem of Mining in the Amazon, an initiative promoted by the Movement for Popular Sovereignty in Mining (MAM Amazônia) that will take place at the State University of Pará (UEPA), CCSE Campus.

The event aims to strengthen the production of critical knowledge about the impacts of mining in the Amazon region and promote dialogue between academia, social movements, and organizations committed to defending these territories. The gathering proposes a collective reflection on the conflicts, challenges, and contradictions inherent in the extractive model in the Amazon, within a context where the region occupies a central place in disputes over development and the sovereignty of its peoples.

The event has the support of various organizations and academic bodies, including the CLACSO Working Group “Borders, regionalization and globalization”, whose members will participate in different panels and activities.
