The Design and Society Studies Group at the Gino Germani Research Institute invites you to the virtual meeting "Material and Symbolic Practices in Sustainable Textile Design." Given the current situation facing the clothing and textile industry worldwide in terms of its environmental and social impact, with consequences that are often irreversible due to the pollution it generates (in soil, air, rivers, and above all, in human health), various design ventures have decided to focus on this problem, seeking ways to mitigate these effects. Many of these ventures are oriented towards the circular economy, through projects involving the reuse, recycling, or alteration of garments. These practices rethink the traditional mode of production/consumption and advocate for a circular one that reconfigures these patterns, urging the incorporation of more conscious practices aligned with the need for change in the textile industry. These topics and experiences related to these processes will be discussed with clothing designer Victoria Romero, founder and director of the Center for Studies in Sustainable Textile Innovation (CEITS) at the National University of Rosario. The event will be coordinated by María Eugenia Correa (IIGG-UBA-CONICET) and organized by the Design and Society Studies Group (GEDISO-IIGG-UBA).
