Summary:

This research, developed as part of Lucía Patiño Mayer's doctoral thesis, analyzes the transformations of the Cosquín National Folklore Festival between the post-Falklands War period and the return to democracy. It explores how the criteria for selecting artists and repertoires changed and to what extent the political opening of 1983 translated into an aesthetic opening, through the return of exiled artists, the emergence of new voices, and the redefinition of the meaning of folklore during the democratic transition. This open virtual meeting proposes, among other things, a dialogue on the (dis)connections of geographical scales (Cosquín, Córdoba, Argentina, abroad) between musical processes in recent cultural history.

Bios:

Lucía Patiño Mayer holds a PhD in Music, History, and Society (EHESS/UNSAM) and is a researcher at the Centre de Recherche sur les Arts et le Langage (CRAL) of the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales. She is an adjunct professor at the National University of San Martín and a tenured professor of Music Education at the French Ministry of National Education. Her research focuses on the relationship between music and politics in recent Latin American history, particularly Argentine folklore, the Cosquín Festival, and music in the context of dictatorships. She has published works on culture, memory, and musical practices in authoritarian contexts in the Southern Cone.

Alejandra Soledad González is a historian, researcher at the IDH (CONICET-UNC), and professor at the postgraduate level at the National University of Córdoba (UNC). With a PhD in History (UNC), she studies artistic and cultural processes from transdisciplinary and intersectional perspectives. Since its founding in 2012, she has led the research group on the Cultural History of the Recent Past (HICUPARE), based at the Research Center of the Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities. She is the author of the book “Juventudes (in)visibilizadas” (UNC, 2019) and editor of the compilation “De artes y culturas en Córdoba durante la década de 1980” (CIFFyH, 2025).
