Meeting with Thomas Khurana (IIGG)

October 21 - 10:00 am - 12:00 PM CMT

What does it mean to be autonomous? In what sense can our own conception of autonomy give rise to new forms of domination? How can we think about the relationship between freedom and nature?

From the Group for the Study of Contemporary Critical Theory (GETeCC) we invite you to participate in a meeting with Thomas Khurana, in which we will discuss his recent book The Life of Freedom in Kant and Hegel (Cambridge University Press, 2026).

Drawing on a reinterpretation of Kant and Hegel, Khurana proposes understanding freedom as a way of life. His perspective challenges the opposition between autonomy and nature, and raises the need to develop a critical theory of our second nature.

The meeting will continue with the author's lecture "Hegel in the Anthropocene".
