Living Democracy: 10th Edition

La 10th edition of Living Democracy the days will be September 15th and 16th in the City of Buenos Aires, in commemoration of International Day of Democracy, established by the United Nations.

The Democracia Viva meeting and festival is a collective initiative co-organized by Asuntos del Sur together with a network of more than 70 organizations, universities, collectives and civic laboratories from Latin America and the Caribbean, including the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO).

Over two days, the meeting proposes to analyze democracy as a daily construction that transcends electoral processes, putting into debate the challenges linked to citizen participation, the expansion of rights, freedoms and the crises of representation in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The main pillars include guarantees for freedom of expression; the elimination of violence, discrimination and racism; the political participation of young people; the commitment to addressing climate change and institutional openness.

The program includes discussion panels and talks, collective intelligence workshops, political innovation labs and artistic and cultural interventions, with the participation of social organizations, researchers, activists, collectives and representatives from different countries in the region.

Representing CLACSO are Pablo Vommaro , Executive Director; Gustavo Lema , Director of Communication and Information; Leandro Morgenfeld , University of Buenos Aires and CONICET, member of the CLACSO Working Group “Studies on the United States” ; and Gabriel Merino , CONICET-UNLP, co-coordinator of the CLACSO Working Group “China and the map of world power” and member of the Working Group “Studies on the United States”.

Program

Tuesday, September 15 – Learning, laboratories and intersections
The first day will feature a common opening, exchange spaces, seven strategic laboratories, and a closing of intersections aimed at building proposals for a New Agreement.

Wednesday, September 16 – Living Democracy Festival
The second day will be open and participatory, with workshops, lightning talks, a project fair, artistic and cultural activities, and the closing with the public signing of the New Agreement and the celebration of ten years of Living Democracy.

Panel: State of rights, public policies and urban space
11:00 - 12:00

The table proposes to generate a space for exchange and collective reflection on the state of rights in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, based on the preliminary results of four investigations developed within the framework of the research call between CLACSO and the Ombudsman of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.

Research teams and institutional representatives will participate to discuss the main findings and reflect on the challenges facing democracy in the urban sphere, as well as on the public policies, institutional capacities and strategies needed to guarantee a fairer and more inclusive city.

Therapeutic trajectories and gender inequalities in the experiences of people in situations of socioeconomic vulnerability who attend drug use treatment centers in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.
Work and workers in the digital economy in Buenos Aires. Problems of a heterogeneous, emerging and deregulated sector.
Transformations of work and labor protection in the City of Buenos Aires: inequalities, state capacities and union experiences (2020–2025).
The right to housing in CABA: an analysis of the tenant issue from the perspective of demand, supply and policies.
