Call for entries: UNESCO Juan Bosch Prize

UNESCO's Management of Social Transformations Programme (MOST) announces the opening of nominations for the 2026 UNESCO Juan Bosch Prize . This initiative, promoted by the Government of the Dominican Republic, seeks to recognize and foster research by young scholars committed to addressing the social challenges of our region.

About the Award

Created in commemoration of the centenary of the birth of Professor Juan Bosch (1909–2009), this award honors the legacy of the celebrated Dominican intellectual, writer and politician, remembered for his tireless struggle for democracy, social justice and a culture of peace.

The central objective of the award is to recognize research papers (theses) that significantly contribute to a better understanding of social and political processes in Latin America and the Caribbean. It also seeks to strengthen the necessary link between academic knowledge in the social sciences and the formulation of effective public policies.

Who can apply?

The award is aimed at young researchers . The main requirements are:

  • Age: Be younger than 41 years.
  • Theme: Present a thesis in social sciences focused on the development, research and improvement of social policies.
  • Regional Focus: The research should focus on Latin America and the Caribbean.
  • Nationality: There are no nationality restrictions (open to researchers from all over the world, as long as the focus of study is the region).

Mutual recognition

The winning thesis will receive a monetary prize of $12.000 USD , awarded every two years.

Deadlines and Application

The call for applications for the 2026 edition is now open and the deadline for submitting applications is February 15, 2026.

Note for institutions and candidates: The UNESCO MOST team offers the possibility of conducting a brief online presentation aimed at potential candidates to explain in detail the objectives, eligibility criteria and the application procedure.
