Call for proposals for a publishing project: Latin American Anthropologies in the 20th Century

The Department of Anthropology, History and Humanities and the Colloquium Ways of knowing de FLACSO Ecuador Researchers are invited to submit chapter proposals for publication Latin American Anthropologies in the 20th Century.

The volume seeks to elucidate the plausibility of a Latin American anthropology and to problematize narratives about national anthropologies, especially from the perspective of enunciation or diffusionism. The aim is to gather contributions that analyze the trajectories, networks, debates, circulations, and political tensions that shaped Latin American anthropologies during the 20th century, considering their local, national, and transnational dynamics.

Proposals that address the following will be especially valued:

  • Transnational connections and knowledge production networks
  • Teaching, research, and fieldwork processes
  • Cultural mediations and political contexts
  • Training of new generations and disciplinary debates
  • Circulation of anthropological knowledge

Requirements to apply

  • Up to three authors per chapter
  • Academic profile (150 words per author)
  • Title and 500-word summary (with plot and content)
  • Complete list of references, including files used

Proposal format

  • Times New Roman 12, 1,5 line spacing
  • Chicago Deusto Standards (according to the FLACSO Ecuador website)
  • Submission in a single PDF file containing: title, authors, abstract, chapter outline, and academic profiles

Schedule

  • Submitting proposals: until the 20 of April of 2026
  • Evaluation and notification: until the 20 of May of 2026
  • Submission of complete chapters (max. 11.000 words): until the 20 of July of 2026
  • Peer assessment: July–December 2026
