Call for proposals for the LASA2027 Congress
September 9 All day

September 9 | Open Call
The Latin American Studies Association (LASA) is calling for proposals to participate in its International Congress LASA2027 , which will be held from June 16 to 20, 2027 in Mexico City , under the theme “Navigating collapse: reinventing politics, caring for the commons”.
The call invites researchers, teachers, postgraduate students, activists and professionals to submit papers, panels and other forms of participation that contribute to the analysis of contemporary challenges facing Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as emerging experiences of political, social and cultural innovation aimed at strengthening democracy and caring for the commons.
The congress aims to discuss the multiple dimensions of the current landscape of accelerated transformations, marked by geopolitical reconfigurations, the expansion of digital technologies and artificial intelligence, increasing inequalities, the environmental crisis, and the rise of authoritarian and anti-rights projects. At the same time, it seeks to highlight experiences of resistance, new forms of activism, democratic innovations, and alternative forms of social organization that allow us to envision more just and inclusive futures.
LASA2027 will feature its traditional permanent thematic areas and four new axes specifically linked to the theme of the congress:
- Latin America in the global reordering.
- Representation, participation and activism in times of collapse.
- Caring for the commons in contexts of dismantling.
- Digital revolution, knowledge and culture in times of polycrisis.
📅 Deadline for submission of proposals: September 9, 2026 , until 17:00 p.m. (ET).
Proposals must be submitted exclusively through LASA's online system. The association also offers travel grants for participants who meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the call for proposals.
