Dissolving barriers: weaving knowledge in the territories of the Americas… and beyond

In a global context marked by multiple crises—climate, environmental, social, epistemic, political and values—, the 2026 Conference of the Americas Action Research Network (ARNA) proposes to reflect on the urgency of reimagining the ways of producing knowledge and building links between territories and communities.

Under the theme “Dissolving Barriers: Weaving Knowledge in the Territories of the Americas… and Beyond,” the conference invites participants to rethink the boundaries between academic and popular knowledge, between the North and South of the continent, and between theory and practice. The gathering seeks to strengthen a vibrant network of action-research committed to social and environmental justice, the sovereignty of peoples, and the right to transformative research.

Inspired by the legacy of Orlando Fals Borda and by action research methodologies that emerged from territories and social struggles, the conference promotes collaborative, critical and creative practices such as the systematization of experiences, militant research, popular science, situated and decolonial research, and the pedagogy of cooperation.

Presentation methods
Proposals can be submitted in different formats:

• Individual presentations
• Themed tables or panels
• interactive workshops
• Artistic experiences (performances, videos, poetry, virtual exhibitions, etc.)

Submissions may be in English, Spanish or Portuguese, and must be between 300 and 500 words.

Important dates

Early abstract submission period opens: October 3, 2025
Submission deadline: February 15, 2026
Evaluation results: before March 16, 2026
Registration fee payment (for confirmation of participation): until April 17, 2026
