Argentina: Political Context and Popular Public Education. 50 Years After the Civic-Military Coup in Argentina (1976-2026)

June 27 11:00 am 1:00 PM CMT

From the Latin American Network of Researchers and Social Organizations—a CLACSO member network that promotes collaboration and collective action among professors and researchers from public and intercultural universities, as well as social, territorial, and labor organizations—we have been developing virtual meetings called “Latin American Dialogues,” focused on situated analysis and exchange. Today, convinced of the urgent need to create spaces for encounter and critical reflection in the face of the region's current situation, we are reviving this initiative, which began during the pandemic (2020). This time, it focuses on Argentina and the tragic anniversary of the last civic-military and ecclesiastical dictatorship. This dictatorship imposed a regime of state terrorism whose structural effects—economic, political, and social—the power dynamics and symbolic disputes of this event directly impact Argentina's current political situation, with regional repercussions. Therefore, producing a memory about the 1976 coup is, today, a way to intervene in the present and project a better future.
